Frida Khalo, the Mexican painter who changed the way of making art

Frida Khalo, the Mexican painter who changed the way of making art

A brave artist, she had the strength to transform suffering into art. Each one of her works is a cry of pride and hope towards life. Frida Kahlo is still today considered one of the most important Mexican painters, a revolutionary and a great experimenter.

She was only eighteen when she had a very serious accident that forced her to spend her life lying on a bed. In the months of immobility, her artistic career began: to help her pass the time, her parents gave her an easel, paints and brushes and, thanks to a mirror placed under the ceiling that reflected her image, she began to paint a self-portrait, the first of a long series.

Diego Rivera, Mexican artist and painter, would be the love of her life. Despite the twenty-one years of difference in age, she would live a passionate love with him, full of betrayals on both sides. Diego had the reputation of a womanizer, he married Frida in third marriage in 1929. Frida reluctantly accepted his infidelities, forgiving him every time, even when he betrayed her with her sister Cristina.
Frida never managed to have a child, the only time she managed to get pregnant she had to have an abortion in order not to risk her life and that of her baby. She struggled with all her strength to carry the pregnancy but she had to surrender to her already weakened physique.

She had a short life, lived intensely, marked by illness and passions, where every day her fragile body made space in life, thanks to her indomitable spirit that distinguished her since she was a child.
